Positions Supervised: None
Work Schedule: 236-day contract. Hours are typically 7:00-3:30 daily with a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks. However, the daily schedule may vary depending on the needs of the district.

POSITION SUMMARY


Assemble, install, or repair pipes, fittings, or fixtures of heating, water, or drainage systems, according to specifications or plumbing codes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

• Assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent,
caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment.
• Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers, water heaters, drinking fountains, ice
machines, or fixtures such as sinks or toilets using hand or power tools.
• Keep records of work assignments.
• Supervise less experienced plumbers.
• Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
• Maintain or repair plumbing by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged
drains.
• Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures, using
measuring instruments such as rulers or levels.
• Measure, cut, thread, or bend pipe to required angle, using hand or power tools or machines such as pipe cutters,
pipe-threading machines, or pipe-bending machines.
• Review blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures.
• Anchor steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
• Install underground storm, sanitary, or water piping systems, extending piping as needed to connect fixtures and
plumbing.
• Inspect structures to assess material or equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, or to
plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
• Install green plumbing equipment, such as faucet flow restrictors, dual-flush or pressure-assisted flush toilets, or
tankless hot water heaters.
• Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes or pipe fittings, using hand or power tools.
• Recommend energy or water saving products, such as low-flow faucets or shower heads, water-saving toilets, or
high-efficiency hot water heaters.
• Adhere to all District policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Assistant Maintenance Director.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Experience: Previous plumbing experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.

 

Certifications & Licenses:


1. Must possess current plumber license.

 

Other Requirements:

1. Valid AR driver's license.
2. Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
3. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times while around students and other staff members.
4. Observance of safety and safe working practices at all times.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


The work environment for this position is generally in a school setting with both inside and outside work. The noise level is moderate in most situations. Some exposure to extreme heat or cold may be encountered depending on the job assignment and the season of the year.
