POSITION SUMMARY
Provides mental health counseling, including individual, group and family treatment as determined by a referral from Bryant School-Based Mental Health through diagnostic evaluation and treatment plan
development.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
• Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, emotional, or behavioral problems affecting their educational environment.
• In conjunction with the school crisis prevention team, provide crisis intervention to students as necessary.
• Create and maintain accurate and complete treatment documentation as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations.
• Counsel students according to school-based mental health guidelines, addressing mental health issues that impact school attendance, grades, discipline, and peer socialization.
• Demonstrate clear and professional boundaries while collaborating with the school guidance counselor, administration and school staff to provide appropriate mental health services that enhance the student's school experience.
• Maintain a clinical professional schedule of face-to-face treatment in the approved modalities of individual, family and group for eighty percent (80%) of the school day.
• Attend meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops at the discretion of the Supervisor(s).
• Educate faculty, staff members and families to explain mental health diagnoses and the impact on students, their families and their educational experience.
• Provide training and professional development for staff on mental health related topics.
• Demonstrate knowledge of counseling theory and techniques.
• Demonstrate knowledge of child and adolescent development.
• Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal regulations and of resources both within and beyond the school and district.
• Manage routines and procedures of the school-based mental health department
• Establish standards of conduct and contribute to the culture for student behavior throughout the school and district.
• Participate in regular caseload updates with school guidance counselors.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations.
• Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
• Report suspected bullying to building principal or designee as required by Arkansas law and district policies.
• Adhere to all policies of the district.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s).

SKILLS & ABILITIES


Education: Master's Level Degree in the study of: Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education or another helping profession that qualifies the individual for state licensure in Counseling or Social Work required.

 


Experience: Two years' post-licensure experience treating children and adolescents with mental illness.

 

 

Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position. 

 

 

Certifications & Licenses: Must have current licensure or certification as appropriate for the position, including without limitation: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); or Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC)(Proof of LAC supervision agreement will be maintained outside the parameters of this
job description and provided for employment).

 


Other Requirements:
1. Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
2. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students and other staff members.
3. Maintain appropriate professional development training to maintain board license in good standing.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most job responsibilities for this position are performed in an indoor, school environment that is temperature controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. Noise levels are mostly low to
moderate. Must be willing to travel to multiple school sites as part of the work day.
