Work Schedule: Base contract is 190 days but may be increased depending upon assignment(s). Daily schedule varies based on requirements of the program. Attendance at after-hours athletic events required.

POSITION SUMMARY


Responsible for teaching Sports Medicine 1 & 2 as well as assists the Head Athletic Trainer to develop, prescribes, and evaluates a comprehensive athletic healthcare system whereby student athletes can maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition in grades 7-12.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
• Assist in overseeing Athletic Training Student Aides.
• Assist in supervising the Athletic Training Room, which includes requisitioning and storing of medical supplies and equipment.
• Develop schedules for medical coverage of athletic practices and events, with higher risk sports taking precedence.
• Coordinate all continuing education conferences, including registration, per diem, travel, and accommodations.
• Meet with Athletic Director on a regular basis at an interval to be determined by the involved parties to discuss overall direction of the Athletic Training Program as well as any issues that may develop.
• Act as a consultant to coaching staff in the development of conditioning protocols during pre-season, in-season, and post-season training.
• Administer proper first aid protocols, to include management of head, neck, and spine injuries as well as the implementation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED).
• Attend and provide input for annual meeting between the Athletic Training Staff, Athletic Director, EMS, Fire Department, and School Resource Officers to review Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for Athletics.
• Conduct in-service training as directed by the Athletic Director or as requested by school district administration.
• Assist in conducting pre-season parent meetings as required by Arkansas law to provide the most current information regarding heat illness, concussions, and communicable diseases.
• Evaluate, assess, prevent, and rehabilitate athletic injuries and chronic conditions or illnesses of student athletes. Evaluate and refer staff and faculty for medical treatment as requested.
• Assist in the development and implementation of specific medical protocols in conjunction with the team physician(s) in keeping with most current best practices.
• Assist parents of student athletes in coordinating appointments to the proper physician as necessary.
• Maintain open lines of communication with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, school nurses, and other medical professionals deemed necessary to the health of student athletes.
• Assist with the coordination of annual athletic physicals.
• Maintain student athlete physicals to include documentation, filing, and expiration dates.
• Inspect, fit, and maintain bracing equipment.
• Act as consultant to coaching staff in proper fitting and inspection of athletic equipment.
• Maintain open line of communication with coaching staff regarding injuries, weather conditions, student athlete return-to-play, and other items of importance as necessary.
• Monitor and evaluate practice and playing conditions regarding weather (heat, cold, severe weather). Consult with administration during games regarding the suspension of play due to severe weather conditions.
• Provide medical assistance to visiting teams without medical coverage as needed and requested.
• Communicate with Athletic Training staff of visiting teams and assist as needed.
• Communicate with proper administration as a mandated reporter pursuant to Arkansas law.
• Does not serve in any capacity unless directed to do so by the Head Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, Superintendent, Superintendent's designee, or building level principal.
• Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director.

SKILLS & ABILITIES


Education: Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school): Required
Master's Degree: Preferred
Experience: None
Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.
Certifications & Licenses: Current certification through the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (BOC) and current Arkansas State License through the Arkansas State Board of Athletic Training.

continuing education units.
2. Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Duties involve both indoor and outdoor working conditions that may include both hot and cold temperatures depending on the season of the year. Noise levels may range from low to moderately high depending on the activities involved.
