Work Schedule: 205-day contract. While most job responsibilities are during the day, some night activities may be required.

POSITION SUMMARY


The ESL Coordinator is responsible for planning and administering the district ESL program.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
• Assist Principals as needed in the supervision and evaluation of ESL personnel in the district.
• Maintain all administrative paperwork associated with the ESL program.
• Recommend and provide needed professional development in ESL education for faculty and staff.
• Conduct parent meetings for in-service in ESL education and encourage active participation in the district program.
• Conduct screenings and assessments and establish files for all students who have been referred to the ESL program.
• Chair the selection committee for identification of students for the ESL program.
• Submit budget recommendations and oversee expenditures for the ESL program.
• Assist and provide support and resources for teachers with ESL students in their classrooms as they attempt to identify and meet the needs of these students.
• Provide a liaison between parents and the school, regular teachers and special teachers, the administration, program personnel, and the community at large.
• Provide input toward the evaluation of ESL staff members.
• Attend and represent the school and the district at community, state, and professional meetings as assigned.
• Promote the welfare and safety of students and staff.
• Collaboratively develop and implement a shared mission and vision.
• Collect and use data to identify goals, assess organizational effectiveness, and promote organizational learning.
• Create and implement plans to achieve goals.

• Assist in monitoring and evaluating the impact of the instructional program and management of operational systems.
• Develop the capacity for distributive leadership.
• Ensure teacher and organizational time is focused on quality instruction and student learning.
• Collect and analyze data and information pertinent to the educational environment.
• Promote understanding, appreciation, and use of the community's diverse cultural, social, and intellectual resources.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

Education: Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school)

Required, Field of Study: Education - ESL
Master's Degree: Preferred

Experience: Previous teaching experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.

Certifications & Licenses: Current Arkansas teaching license as applicable for the position.

 

Other Requirements:

 

1. Candidates for this position must be able to demonstrate acceptable levels of verbal fluency in Spanish.
2. Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
3. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, staff, and the general public.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Most job responsibilities for this position are performed in an indoor school environment that is temperature controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. Noise levels are mostly low to moderate.
