Positions Supervised: Central Office Directors; Elementary and Secondary School Principals
Work Schedule: 240-day contract. While most job responsibilities are during the day, some night activities, such as attendance at school board meetings, are required.

POSITION SUMMARY


Serve as direct assistant to the Superintendent of Schools and serve as his/her designee in the event the Superintendent is not available to perform the duties of the position. The Deputy Superintendent will assist in planning, directing, and coordinating district activities at the highest level of management within the administrative team.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
• Confer with Superintendent, organization officials, or staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, or resolve problems.
• Analyze operations to evaluate performance of staff in meeting objectives or to determine areas of potential program improvement or policy change.
• Review reports submitted by staff members to recommend approval or to suggest changes.
• Supervise department heads or managers and assign or delegate responsibilities to them.
• Establish departmental responsibilities and coordinate functions among departments and sites.
• Implement corrective action plans to solve organizational or departmental problems.
• Review and analyze legislation, laws, and public policy, and recommend changes to promote and support interests of both the general population and special groups.
• Make presentations to various groups regarding policies, programs, or budgets.
• Supervise building principals and other personnel as assigned by the Superintendent.
• Collaboratively develop and implement a shared vision and mission.
• Collect and use data to identify goals, assess organizational effectiveness, and promote organizational learning.
• Promote continuous and sustainable improvement.
• Nurture and sustain a culture of collaboration, trust, learning, and high expectations.
• Develop assessment and accountability systems to monitor student progress.
• Develop the instructional and leadership capacity of staff.
• Promote the use of the most effective and appropriate technologies to support teaching and learning.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of the instructional program.
• Promote and protect the welfare and safety of students and staff.
• Monitor requirements to meet compliance with state guidelines.
• Ensure that a program for providing quality substitute teachers is in place.
• Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
• Adhere to all policies of the District.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

Education: Master's Degree Required, Field of Study: Education
Doctorate Preferred, Field of Study: Education

Experience: Previous district-level administrative experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.

Certifications & Licenses: Current Arkansas teaching license that is appropriate to the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


Most job responsibilities for this position are performed in an indoor school environment that is temperature controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. Noise levels are mostly low to moderate.
