Positions Supervised: As assigned by the Superintendent
Work Schedule:  240-day contract. While most job responsibilities are during the day, some night activities, including attendance at school board meetings, may be required.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Superintendent - Secondary Education is responsible for secondary programs and schools.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
• Be responsible for the development of the secondary educational planning for the district to include curriculum, instructional programming, staffing, budgeting and leadership development.
• Be responsible for the coordination of learning materials and equipment for secondary schools in keeping with approved procedures and state guidelines.
• Serve as a professional consultant to principals, teachers, and administrative officials on all phases of the secondary programs.
• Assist in the preparation of an annual needs assessment based on testing data and other relevant information for secondary program improvement.
• Attend and represent the school and the district at community, state, and professional meetings as assigned.
• Keep staff informed and seek ideas for improvement by working collaboratively with the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent to help direct and implement sound secondary programming and professional development related to school improvement initiatives.
• Be responsible for developing secondary specialists to perform their duties to the highest standards.

• Work with secondary principals to establish and maintain quality instructional and extracurricular programs and to implement Board and State instruction mandates related to strategic plans, current legislative initiatives, and school improvement efforts.
• Evaluate the following personnel: Secondary principals.
• Develop capacity in principals and assistant principals for evaluation of teachers.
• Report, investigate, and address suspected bullying as required by Arkansas law and district policies.
• Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
• Determine the placement of student interns.
• Adhere to all policies of the District.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Master's Degree Required, Field of Study: Education


Experience: Prior experience as a district-level administrator preferred.


Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.

Certifications & Licenses: Current Arkansas teaching license that is appropriate to the position.

Other Requirements:

2. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, staff, and the general public.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most job responsibilities for this position are performed in an indoor school environment that is temperature controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. Noise levels are mostly low to moderate.
