Work Schedule: 240-day contract. Hours are flexible to meet the needs of the program.

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibility for assisting the Food Service Director in planning, organizing, and directing the development and operation of the district food service program.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
• Along with the Food Service Director, consult with principals and cafeteria managers on quantities and quality of food needed.
• Assist the Food Service Director in the development of specifications for purchasing (bids) food and supplies.
• Along with the Food Service Director, work with principals, committees, and architects in developing food service areas in new schools and in remodeling old ones.
• Assist the Food Service Director in the development of specifications for the purchase of equipment for kitchens.
• Evaluate reimbursable meal programs regularly as required by USDA to meet requirements for lunch and breakfast programs.
• Assist cafeteria managers in staffing and menu planning for school food service programs.
• Work with principals, teachers, parents, students, and cafeteria managers to promote a better understanding of food service programs in the schools.
• Obtain current prices from vendors.
• Order food and supplies for cafeterias.

• Assist the Food Service Director in the supervision of managers and the meals that they prepare to assure quality products.
• Assist in training manager trainees to assure qualified managers.
• Maintain meal service computer software as required to operate the food service program.
• Keep necessary records for USDA commodities as required.
• Assist the Food Service Director in the submission of staff payroll information to the Business Office.
• Review and plan menus to take into account students with special dietary or nutritional restrictions.
• Inspect kitchen equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
• Compile and maintain records of food use and expenditures.
• Along with the Food Service Director, coordinate and maintain the inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Monitor use of government food commodities to ensure that proper procedures are followed.
• Monitor menus and spending to ensure that meals are prepared economically.
• Make recommendations on meal prices, based on the cost of commodities and preparation.
• Assist the Food Service Director in the planning of menus that are varied, nutritionally balanced, and appetizing, taking advantage of foods in season and local availability.
• Assists the Food Service Director in the evaluation of food service managers and workers.
• Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
• Report suspected bullying to building principal or designee as required by Arkansas law and district policies.
• Adhere to all policies of the District.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school) Preferred, Field of Study: Nutrition or related field


Experience: Previous experience as a school food service manager or director preferred for this position.


Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a combination of office and kitchen areas. Noise ranges from low to moderately high depending on whether meals are being served or not. Personnel may experience higher than normal working temperatures while in proximity to stoves, dishwashers, and other equipment.
